Artist's Statement

I find sources of inspiration in
basic archetypal forms, such as...
The Arch,
"A basic form in nature and of strength in man made structures, it enables
shared support, access and passage".
Crystal Forms,
"The influence of the crystal is seen in many of humanities creations, they
surround us as we venture through life, the shape of a many faceted roof,
the beveled glass window, in the cut crystal vase, the wonderful sculpted art".
The Radius and Curve,
"Provides a means of softening transitions, suggesting , purpose, smoothness
and sensuality, for me it is a feminine form".
The Circle and Sphere,
"The circle is strongest form in nature, second only to the sphere, more than
strength alone, these forms represent the circle of life, birth, continuity and
death".
The
Mountain Form and the Triangle, "A primal symbol of strength, power, growth and change,
up-thrust and eventual erosive demise"
Plant Life,
" The textures and forms of vegetation suggest the diversity and complexity of
nature while instilling a sense of beauty, order and simplicity".
The Spiral,
early humans gazed into the heavens and saw stars in the form of spiral nebulae
and placed representations on animal skins and on cave walls, in her hand the
swirl of the seed pod provoked creation of textile and jewelry, the spiral form
inspired occult and spiritual symbols, modern man finds his genetic information
organized in a double helix - intimations of greater unseen forces, movement,
expansion and order - "Above all forms the spiral speaks to me."
"When working in wood and other
materials I snatch glimpses of the basic ingredients, the stuff from which we
all emerge, as I shape, sand, smooth and burnish, bring to form and finish,
the materials speak of water, of stone and bone, wood; movement, torrents of energy
into form and fulfillment".
William Bouné
Artist's Profile ~ The Journey!

Early in his youth Bill had these eerie sensations that he
had an instinct for artistic expression that seemed to come from where he did
not know! Before grade school he considered the possibility that his
feelings had their roots in a prior life as an artist.
His early heroes, beside his Dad, where Michelangelo and Leonardo De Vinci.
Wherever this deep interest originated it forged an evolving interests
in the
fine arts and architectural pursuits.
Throughout all
levels of schooling his fellow students referred to him as "the
artist." Existing is an oil painting of an uncle's
backyard done at age six. His pen and
ink drawings of the old clock tower at Sacramento High School, where he was the
President of the Beau Arts Club, were displayed there for many
years.
Education in the Arts continued at Sacramento City College
with an Associate of Arts degree. A
Bachelor of Arts degree, with Honors, was earned at California State University Sacramento, with a
specialization in Sculpture. Unique Redwood
sculptures were created,
Embracing Spirals, was displayed at the California State Fair. With
schooling he further mastered a broad range of tools and techniques as
well as deepening his understanding and love for Art.
He worked his way through college with carpentry
and woodwork, after school he continued with
architectural pursuits while never losing site of other
creative impulses. His compulsive interest in working with Redwood,
while a student, made moving to Sonoma County a natural choice.
In his youth a mentor and professor had suggested that
perhaps William should be patient, allow time for life
experience and maturation to add depth to his work and perhaps to avoid being
pigeonholed into the performance of youth. Taking this to heart, William's
journey has provided fulfillment with building a home and nurturing his
relationship with wife and child. Now older, he devotes what time he can
to creating new works of art while focusing on a constructing a larger studio
with the desire to some day be fully immersed in artistic expression.
As to Art - "I
have only just begun to produce!
